Data is the currency of the digital economy. To create better outcomes for business, society and the environment, knowing how to use the science of data insight with IoT will give you an edge in a world of connectivity and automation.

This is a practical hands-on 34-week programme created in close consultation with leading industry experts and practitioners to help you level up your expertise to surface untapped insight and create new value, more efficiency and better outcomes.

Pathways to The Master of Technological Futures 

This postgraduate certificate is a pathway to the Master of Technological Futures – 45 of the credits you earn on this programme can be cross-credited to the Master’s programme. Watch below to find out how.

Programme Details

This programme is available to study part-time only and is delivered as a Blended Learning model with weekly live-online class sessions and six full-day workshops spaced over the course of the programme. See the Key Dates section below for more detail.

A total time commitment of 16 hours per week comprising:

  •  2 hour weekly live-online sessions (except for weeks with full-day workshop) 
  • 14 hours of applied hands-on self-directed learning plus preparation and collaboration work

The six full-day face-to-face workshops will be held on-site at Tech Futures Lab, 99 Khyber Pass Road, Grafton, Auckland.

Fees

The full tuition fee for the Postgraduate Certificate in Connected Environments programme is:

  • $6,045* Domestic (NZ student fees)
  • $16,599* International students

*Prices stated are in NZD and inclusive of 15% GST (goods and services tax).

We offer a 10% Early Bird discount on tuition fees for applications received by midnight the month prior to the intake start date (offer not available to international students). See Key Dates section above for specific intake dates.

Support available to domestic students:

  • StudyLink loans are available.
  • Depending on your study history, you may be eligible for the NZ Government’s Fees Free scheme.

International students

With the current Covid-19 travel restrictions in place at the New Zealand border, this postgraduate certificate programme is only available to study as an international student if you are already in New Zealand. As the New Zealand government reviews and revises travel restrictions, it may be possible to apply for a Student Visa and travel to New Zealand to study this programme with us in the future.

Entry requirements

We value industry and real-world experience as much as an academic record. You don’t need specific technical ability but you must demonstrate a willingness to learn.

You’ll need one of the following:

  • Have at least four years of professional experience in a relevant industry or community demonstrating equivalence or higher to the qualification stated below.

OR

  • A bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional qualification (or higher) AND a minimum of two years’ work experience in a field impacted by the digital economy.

To make sure you’ll gain what you want out of this programme, you’ll need to provide a Statement of Intent as part of the enrolment process. You can do this by letter or video. 

Places are offered in order of enrolment. The programme is available to candidates who qualify as domestic students (NZ and Australian citizens and permanent residents) and international students who are currently residing in New Zealand. Please see the International Students page for specific information.

English Language Requirements

If English is not your first language, you will need to provide evidence of English language competence. This might be a formal test, academic qualification from an English speaking  country or professional achievements in English. More details of the requirements these options need to meet are covered on the International Students page.

Tangata Whenua Scholarship
We have $100,000 worth of full fees scholarships available to learners who identify as Māori.
Pacific Ako Scholarship
We have $100,000 worth of full fees scholarships available to those who identify as Pacific learners.
Taipakeke Scholarship
We have $50,000 worth of full fees scholarships available to learners who are aged 60 years and over.
