Emerging disruptive technologies (EDTs) are not new. But they are evolving at a rapid pace and their integrations, evolutions and intelligence are creating radical change across society. These emerging technologies bring massive implications for how we work. Those who grasp their fundamentals and their potential to significantly enhance the agility and flexibility of workplace practices will front foot the fourth industrial revolution.

This 10-week industry focused micro-credential will develop your awareness of both current and emerging disruptive technologies. Lead by industry and EDT experts, you’ll gain insight into industries that are experiencing the most rapid and substantial change and develop the confidence to use a strategic lens on their relevance and application in your practice.

Technologies you’ll cover:

Artificial Intelligence, Blockchain, Cybersecurity, the Internet of Things, Mobility, Extended Reality and Big Data.

What you’ll learn:

  • How to evaluate the fundamental principles of the most widely used current and emerging disruptive technologies and their interrelationships for amplified impact.
  • How to evaluate EDTs for their relevance, their potential for innovation and their impact implications in the context of your practice.
  • How to formulate evidence-based initiatives, applying an ethical lens, to utilise EDTs for desirable change in the context of your practice.

  • Senior executives who may not ordinarily be exposed to the practical aspects of emerging disruptive technologies
  • Emerging entrepreneurs and small to medium enterprises owners and managers who want to upskill to add value to their business

Programme Details

This micro-credential is available to study part-time only and is delivered through facilitated online class sessions and self-directed learning.

A total time commitment of 15 hours per week comprising:

  • 1.5hrs weekly live-online sessions 
  • 13.5hrs self-directed learning per week

The full tuition fee for the Disruptive Technology micro-credential programme is

  • $450*^Domestic (NZ student fees)
  • $1,500* International students

*Prices stated are in NZD and inclusive of 15% GST (goods and services tax).

International students

This micro-credential programme is available to study as an international student either via online distance learning if you don’t live in New Zealand or if you currently reside in New Zealand and your visa conditions allow study. Entry requirements

We value industry and real-world experience as much as an academic record. You don’t need specific technical ability but you must demonstrate a willingness to learn.

Places are offered in order of enrolment. The programme is available to candidates who qualify as domestic students (NZ and Australian citizens and permanent residents) and international students who are currently residing in New Zealand. Please see the International Students page for specific information.

You’ll need one of the following:

  • Equivalent professional experience in a relevant industry or community demonstrating equivalence or higher to the qualification stated below.


  • A bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional qualification (or higher)

English Language Requirements

If English is not your first language, you will need to provide evidence of English language competence. This might be a formal test, academic qualification from an English speaking  country or professional achievements in English.
