An experienced and innovative Learning and Development / Organisational Development professional currently working in tertiary education delivering varied initiatives relating to staff culture, behaviour and capability. On a mission to shift L&D from the traditional expert-led model to an applied, co-created approach, supported by technology and with a focus on building the skills for self-directed, life-long learning. First and foremost a problem-solver, I am at my happiest at the front end of a project (discovery, design and development phases) partnering with others to develop innovative learning solutions that work. With a strong dollop of curiosity balanced with a healthy pragmatism, I am always looking for ways to combine my interests in human behaviour, teamwork, modern workplace learning design and practices and digital technology.
I am an energy professional with extensive utility and retailer experience ranging from engineering and project management through to sales and business development. In 2015 I graduated from the University of Auckland’s MBA programme and on the back of that originated and progressed Nova’s broadband and energy disaggregation initiatives. The energy industry is heading for more disruption through climate change, electrification and industry/technology convergence. My belief is business and industry stakeholders can’t make informed decisions if they don’t have a grasp of the future – hence, my attraction to the HPDE course is remaining relevant and informing the business through learning that will complement the fundamentals of my MBA.
I’ve spent 24 years working in the media advertising industry across TV Broadcast, Print, Digital and Advertising Agency roles. Currently working as a Group Account Directorat TVNZ, leading a small but high performing commercial agency sales team, selling TV and digital integrated marketing solutions to some of New Zealands’ largest companies. This largely involves working with Ad Agencies and collaborating with specialist business units within the company to bring a solution to improve business performance. My clients have varying levels of digital expertise so my Job is generalist rather than specialist in nature, requiring me to wear a number of hats depending on the situation, from traditional processes to more advanced digital solutions.

I am originally from Melbourne, and after multiple assignments in NZ through my executive life emigrated to Auckland in 2016 permanently. My early career was in the resources industry with BHP Steel/BlueScope, before taking time out to complete an MBA. I then joined the pharmaceutical industry and spent 12 years with Eli Lilly in various marketing and leadership roles in Australia, NZ and the US. After time in the medical device sector, I changed career in my mid-forties to Executive Search and Leadership Assessment with Egon Zehnder based in Sydney. For the last +4 years I have been a partner at SEQEL, an NZ based Executive Search firm working with commercially orientated clients across a broad range of sectors appointing CEOs, CxOs, Board Chairs and Directors. Happily married to a teacher, and we have three children aged 20, 18 and 16.
An Engineering Technician experience in manufacturing, maintenance, solving technical problems in research & development in my early career. I then moved in Tertiary Education Sector, working for Manukau Institute of Technology as a Mechanical Technician for 11 years and currently with The University of Auckland as Teaching Technician, supporting Teaching in Multi-Disciplinary Learning Spaces. Now that Design, Build and Workshop Practices for Engineering students are more focused towards digital tools, my inspiration is to develop innovative learning delivery. I am bit of old school but always progressing through collaboration, dedication and enthusiasm, thus HPDE is pathway to upskill.
