Cultural Advisor

Dane was born and raised in the Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei community and is an active member of the hapū. Dane has whakapapa to Tainui, Ngāpuhi and Tahiti.

As ahi kā (those who keep the fires burning) Dane’s energy is directed at maintaining the mana, presence and influence to help shape the future for Tāmaki Makaurau and impact the wider communities. Supporting his community and achieving whānau wellbeing is central to his life.

Throughout Dane’s career he’s worked to make impact for Māori and Pasifika achievement in roles within the public, private and iwi organisations. Dane has served his hapū as a whānau Director and in many management roles. In 2017 he co-founded a Mana whenua led entrepreneurial business delivering tourism and hospitality through a lens of cultural empowerment.

Cultural Advisor at Tech Futures Lab

Dane’s core strength is in building reciprocal relationships and increasing capability in partnerships that support positive outcomes for whānau prosperity. It’s this partnership approach Dane brings to his role as cultural advisor at The Mind Lab and Tech Futures Lab. Dane helps us to keep Māori culture front of mind across our programmes and further embed kaupapa Māori values into the work we do.
